  • 2000 username and homedir not created?

I an testing the eval of 3.0 and noticed that when using Hyena to add a new user account on a 2000 server, the 2000 user login name is not created. Nor is the home directory.

The Pre-2000 user login name is created.

The syntax for homedir is \\fiber\users\%username%

    USERS is shared with everyone/full

Is it possible that I got a bad dload?

      Thanks.

For the home directory issue, your question was enough to point me in the direction of figuring it out (doh!

RE: The 2000 user login name.

Is this something that I need to manually enter? The pre-2000 name is populated automatically.

We are currently working our beta for v3.5, and will make sure we have any missing fields included in that version.

If you use MMC, where exactly is this field and what is the caption for it?

          Using the AD Users/Computers
          username properties
          Account TAB
          User Logon Name

just to the left of the @domain field.

I'd also like to say I appreciate the help seeing that I have the eval copy. It's rare to find anyone willing to help when the software is an eval copy.

          Thanks.

Just found out that User Commander 1.2 has the same problem with not populating the 2000 User Logon Name.

This may be an AD issue. We have been experiencing the same problem here, but we use Exchange to create our accounts (through the Import Directory utility). Sometimes it will populate the user name with the correct fields, and sometimes we get users with the userid in the full name field, instead of their first and last names.

Just wanted to let you know it may not be strictly limited to Hyena. Although it may be Hyena AND Exchange, since both were written prior to W2K and may not fully support all of the information that AD supports.

If the next version of Hyena does fully support AD and Exchange 2000, that'll be great. I can't wait to not have to create accounts through Exchange just so I can get all of our mailbox info imported correctly.

We have fixed most of these problems in the beta of v3.5, which we hope to release in a couple of weeks. To get on the beta list, send an email to me at [email protected]. Hyena will let you control the Active Directory container name, W2K logon name, and pre-W2K logon name in v3.5, as well as supporting OUs, etc. We are completing the user management stuff now and will have Exchange 2000 options as well in the 2nd beta (we already know what we have to do...)

                Thanks
