  • Firewalls???

I use Hyena on our domain and I love it. My question is this, I have 2 access servers behind a firewall that I would like to use Hyena to contact, however I cannot see them in Hyena. I can see the computer object in AD but the servers do not show up in the browser list. I am sure browsing is turned off on these servers so Is there a way to access these servers without turning on Browser. We tried to determine what port Hyena was using and it seemed to be numerous ports. Is it possible to run hyena by just allowing access to specific ports, if so which ones. Please do not tell me browser service must be running. Any insight would be appreciated.

    Re: Firewalls???

Are these servers part of your domain? If so, you'll still see them listed under the Computers object. Without browsing they won't show up in the Servers folder, but will still show up under Computers.

If they aren't part of your domain, try adding them as individual objects in File->Manage Object View.

Wow quick response. They are part of my domain and they do show up however they are greyed out and when I attempt to access them it gives me an error that the network path is not available. I only want me to access the servers because of their secure nature (We have recently become a bank and have some strict security regulations). Can I give only my desk access to the servers though specific ports or IP's. Is this possible????

Hyena doesn't handle that communication, but rather depends on Windows for this. If the firewalls are blocking RPC, then you probably won't be able to manage these servers. One thing you try as a test is to create an object for one of them, but in the Computer Path box enter the IP address.

You'll do this by going to File->Manage Object View and clicking New, then changing the Type to Server.
