  • 5.5 Upgrade issues

I installed the upgrade and now have the following problems:

Almost every function I attempt (VNC, export, etc) gives me a 'unable to run...\Hyena\whatever %1 is not a valid Win32 Application.

All my icons are now look the same, the services icon. (slows you down having to look twice before opening)

I have removed and reinstalled the full version. I still have two years left on my registration.

    Suggestions?
    Thanks

First try redownloading to make sure the .zip file isn't corrupted.

The icons issue might be related to you recently updating to the latest Nvidia drivers from Windows Update.

Tried it. I originally updated the app, and that is when the problem started up. I then completely removed it and installed the full version, separate download, same problem. I brought this up with some of the other admins, and they say they are having the same problem. We upgraded directly from 5.2c is there an upgrade path?

        Re: 5.5 Upgrade issues

We've had a few customers with the icons problem, and this turned out to be a Nvidia display driver. Apparently the driver included in one of the Windows Updates causes this problem with Hyena and Microsoft Messenger.

The solution for this was to either try and roll back the drivers or try this one:

        Compaq (HP) SP19601.EXE

I'll give it a try, but my primary concern is the error everyone is getting. Any ideas on that?

See Microsoft KB article #325680 for a possible cause. Look carefully at the path that you have any subprograms (VNC, stexport.exe, etc.) in and see if you have a different directory named with a portion of that path. the KB article explains it better than I can.

As for your icons, see if you have recently upgraded your video drivers and if they are NVIDIA are not.

If that does not explain your icon problems, send a screen shot to [email protected].

              Re: 5.5 Upgrade issues

I can reproduce this problem if I create a file named "program" and place it on my %systemdrive%. There is a problem with Windows when it tries to run programs if the path contains a space and you have particular file names on your system.

The person that decided that it was OK to have spaces in file and directory names should be either put in prison or forced to deal with the problems that resulted from it.

Let me know if this addresses your issue.

Search our board for "NVIDIA" for solutions to the other issue.

              Thanks

                Re: 5.5 Upgrade issues

Just to follow up. Seems the path was an issue. I usually reserve D:\ for applications, but removed and installed to C:\. This resolved the problem.

The video driver as a complete mess. I had to restore the OS from backup. It works now.

                Thanks for the help
