  • Unable to View Security Log

Exchange 2000, installed on a Terminal Server.
Trying to view the Security log, the following error is appearing 'Unable to complete the operation in 'Security'. A required privilege is not held by the client'. I have configured this on numerous other sites, which works fine. I've the local security policy for the server but everything appears fine. I was wondering whether you had come across this error before? Many Thanks

Walk us through the steps that you take to get this error, as this message does not appear to be generated by Hyena. Also, tell us what what the title is on the error message dialog.

Go look at your services and see if the RPC has been set to use Nt Authority. If so, change it to local system then reboot. Then see if your able to get into the security log.

With regards the RPC Service this is configured to the local system account.

The RPC service is already set to Local System?

Server is in the List Window, I right click go to 'Events', select 'Event Viewer', then I select the security log, that's when it shows the error (the title is just 'event viewer'. I can view the other 2 logs on this server and I have no issues with the other servers onsite? I believe it is a local policy or maybe the server needs a reboot?

Re: Unable to View Security Log

As I thought, this error is not coming from Hyena. You are using Window's Event Viewer. If you run the MMC Computer Management snapin and have it access the same computer, you will probably get the same error.

Try searching Microsoft's site or Technet to see what the cause is to this problem, or use Hyena's own event viewing method to view the events (it may also get a similar error).

Re: Unable to View Security Log

I had to add the local Hyena account to the ‘Manage Auditing and Security Log’ policy of exchange server to make it work.

                Many Thanks for your Help
