• Shared settings

My goal is to continue to share the many custom tools with other sys admins in v6.0.
Prior to v6.0, the config.ini file is stored on a file server and their Hyena points to it via the "Shared Settings (.INI) File Name" field. V6 stores the custom tool settings in file TOOL_CMDS.DAT instead of config.ini.

Do I need to copy ALL Hyena *.DAT files from my application profile to the file server and populate field "Path to Object Manager and other shared configuation files"? In doing so, I notice that all the sys admins now share a single copy of the *.DAT files including the object view.

In V6.0, I just wanted to share the tools and nothing else. Is this possible? Thank you very much.

Re: Shared settings

There isn't a way in Hyena to share this file (we plan to add this in the next release), but if you simply give this file to anyone, they can place it in their profile directory. There may be a file there with that name, but it can just be overwritten with yours if you want someone to have your tools.

Re: Shared settings

I haven't visited these forums for a bit due to no problems with Hyena. I just found that other admins don't get the config.ini from the share point as described above.
My request is the oppisite then above. There are only 4 of us and we want all our settings the same so that we administer are LAN the same way. So since the config.ini file on the file server doesn't work any more. How do I do that feature now?

Re: Shared settings

With v6.0 rev 'D', have you added back the feature to share custom tools with other system administrators?. Also, I was not able to find documentation of what are changes in rev 'D'. Thank you.

Re: Shared settings

You'll copy the TOOL_CMDS.dat file to your shared location and make sure you specify that path in Tools->Settings->General.

Revision information is in the What's New section of the help file. Scroll down towards the bottom to see it.

Re: Shared settings

I created a new share and moved the file TOOLS_CMDS.DAT to it. When Hyena starts, it complains that these config files are missing: WMI_QUERIES.DAT, PERF_QUERIES.DAT, AD_QUERIES.DAT, AD_SCHEMA.DAT & AD_NODES.DAT. I just wanted to share the custom tools, nothing else. This was possible up to Hyena v5.7. Will you be reinstating this feature? Thank you very much.

Re: Shared settings

In the next beta release (around the end of the month), we'll do something to allow just sharing some files, much in the way that you describe.

Re: Shared settings

Have you released a new version yet that has restored or fixed the shared config.ini issue that is not fuctional in version 6? This is really a pain it the but copying files back and forth to other admin's using Hyena.

Re: Shared settings

I don't understand what is broken in v6.0 with respect to shared settings as they should work as before. We did add the feature in the current beta to only share the files that you want to share.

So please let us know what is not working right with respect to shared settings.

Re: Shared settings

Very well, I have a total of 28 tools. I check the box for Save all of these settings into shared settings .INI file
The config.ini shows todays date as modified but yet none of the updates to my Hyena since version 5.7 are showing in the config.ini file. The tools stop at IDM_TOOLCMD18. No matter what changes I make they don't write to the config.ini file nor do any of my other admins get the new tools (because the ini file isn't updated)[p]
I have just updated to 6 version D and still no go.

Re: Shared settings

Sharing Tools was the only thing affected recently and this being due to the new file structure. You can simply copy the TOOL_CMDS.DAT file to the other computers when you modify tools. Everything else works as in the past.

In the beta version, you can place it in a central location (the same location as the .INI file) and everybody can point the
shared settings location to that directory.

Then when you update your tools or other settings, the files in the shared directory will be updated and everyone else will automatically be updated as well.

Re: Shared settings

So just the tools are not writing to the config.ini any longer. But all other setting's like home directory templates and exchange templates will write to the config.ini file. I used to be on the beta test emailing list but have no longer been recieving any emails. Possibly an old email address. Thank you for the explanation.

Yes, just downloaded it and wala! It connected to the tools in the config.ini file. I then had to update the ini file by hand as all the newer tools were in my local cmd_tools file.

No matter, thanks a million. ONWARD!!!
