  • View Scheduled Jobs for a Group of Windows 2008 Servers

With Win2k3 I commonly list all of the scheduled jobs on a group of servers (select the servers in the right pane, right-click, select Scheduled Jobs, and filter for the job I want to work with). Most Windows 2008 servers will not display their scheduled jobs using this method. I have to go to each server and click on Scheduled jobs.

How can I get the list of jobs from all of my servers in one list?

Can you give us more details on this? What version of Hyena are you running? What OS is Hyena installed on? If you right-click on one of the 2K8 servers in the right-hand window and choose Scheduled Jobs, does that work? Are you getting an error messages?

My personal workstations are running Windows 7 and Windows server 2008 R2. Hyena version is 9.2B. Hyena is running as Administrator.

I have an Object Grouping in Hyena containing computer objects that I use to check/modify/run a scheduled job for patching. It's worked great for Win2k3 servers and XP workstations.

If I right-click on each server Win2k8 individually (in either right or left pane) I can get the list of jobs, but if I select multiple servers at a time, right-click and select Scheduled jobs, the majority of Windows 2008 server jobs don't show up. For some reason a few of the W2k8 servers do show the particular job I'm looking for, though not the default jobs on the server.

I'm not able to duplicate this, so before I check with Development for ideas, try selecting two W2K8 servers and let me know what you see. If that works, then select a W2K3 and a W2K8 and try again.

I'm trying to determine if it's due to multiple servers, or different OSes.

I selected two Win 2008 servers (both Windows 6.1, SP 1), and (!!!) it showed all of the scheduled jobs, although it's never done this before when I selected the whole group (~45 computers).

Next I selected 6 Win 2008 servers (all Windows 6.0, SP 2), two of which had never shown me their jobs before, and again I got all of the jobs.

Third, I selected the same six Win 2008 servers, plus a Win 2003 server, and got the jobs from four of the Win 2008 servers and the Win 2003 server. Curiouser and curiouser.

Starting with Windows 7 and Server 2008, Microsoft updated the scheduler to v2.0, which aren't compatible. Hyena will check the computers and if all of them (including the client too) are capable of v2.0 tasks, then Hyena will query each computer using the v2.0 interfaces and show the results. But if one of the computers is not v2.0-compatible, then it will drop down to the lower v1.0 interfaces for all computers.

This would explain why you see differences once you add in a 2003 server. If the jobs you need are v1.0 tasks, you can select all of your computers and view them. If you need to see the v2.0 tasks, you'll have to run two different reports: one with only your 2008 servers, then one with your 2003 servers.

Running two reports is far easier than having to query each server separately. Thanks very much for the answer.
