  • Simple 5-field Query

I've spent half a day so far trying to figure out Exporter Pro without success. Love Hyena itself, but EP is driving me nuts. Need to query AD for active user objects with email addresses (lots imported long ago from NT4 without SMTP addresses). I need to output Last Name, Given Name, Department, Email address and Full Name. I don't find the help file of much use, as it seems to presuppose way too much for a query newbie such as myself.

Any ideas or other tools to try? DameWare's tool doesn't seem any less cryptic to figure out.

The best way is to start in Hyena, select the domain (or specific users you want) then go to Tools->Exporter Pro->Export From Selected Objects. Click the Settings button then enable Detailed Users under Active Directory(Users,Groups). Then double-click Detailed User and in the lower left are the current fields, lower right are the fields you can add. Click Close and then Start Export.

Thanks. I will give that a try. How do I limit it to active accounts only? We deliberately let months pass before actually deleting an disabled user account, as we have a high percentage of temporary associates who are here for projects, leave, and then come back for the next project.

In Hyena double-click on All Users to display them in the right-hand window. Then right-click on the column header over the first column and choose Sort by Icon. This puts the disabled users at the bottom so you can select them.

Thanks! I was making it much to hard on myself. I ended up changing the default User view to include the columns I needed plus a couple useful for spotting bogus user accounts. Since I could then export directly to Excel, it ended up being fairly simple. :-)
