  • Windows 7 Event Viewer Access?

How do I remotely access the event viewers for Windows 7 client from an XP client?

What happens when you try to view events? You can either right-click on a computer and choose Events, or find the computer in the left window and expand it then expand Events.

I see now that one has to be running Windows 7 to see the log files on another Windows 7 system. The version that installs on XP does not have the capability to view the different logs. In Win 7, the logs do not drop down on the GUI tree, that just errors: "Unable to connect to registry of "\\systemname". The network path was not found." If we right-click the system object or the event object and choose "Event Viewer", that works.

      Thanks.

Verify that the Remote Registry service is running on the remote Win 7 box and see if that isn't the issue.

You're a genius! That was it! Works from XP, too. Thanks a bunch!
