Hello. Version 7.0 Enterprise. I need to add a different domain user to their respective PC's local administrative groups. To put it another way, I must give 50% of the company temporary administrative rights on their own PC. I know how to add a domain group to multiple PC's, which could contain the member users, but then the members of that group would have admin access (va RPC, etc.) to other PC's besides their own. Of course, I can add each user individually, but that will take too long to accomplish. Any advice for me? Note that I do have an Excel that has two columns - a list of the user domain names (login names) and their assigned PC. I was thinking that some sort of complicated Macro might be the answer, but that is beyond my skillset. Any help is much appreciated!

Hyena wouldn't do this for you. We do have another product called User Commander that works off delimited text files that could be used for that task. You can read more about it at http://www.systemtools.com/uc/

Re: Adding unique domain users to local admin group on multiple PC's
Thanks! I have downloaded and installed UC for that purpose. It seems to work well, but takes forever to timeout when working against a list of multiple computers where some of them may be offline. The timeout wait period seems to be several minutes at least. Is this adjustable or something I can change? (Sorry if this is not the right forum, but I did not see one just for UC.

Unfortunately UC has no control over that timeout as it is handled by Windows. There is a setting you might want to test, though. Under General Settings is an option to Show errors in Command window only.

Re: Adding unique domain users to local admin group on multiple PC's
If I understand you right, you want to add a specific username (local user) to the local administrator's group on some computers. We have another product in beta, SystemTools Commander, that has been updated to include local group management. If you want to use the beta version, send an email to [email protected] and I'll provide the download location, etc.

Re: Adding unique domain users to local admin group on multiple PC's
Thanks for the update. Turning off the error pop-ups seemed to help tremendously - it still beeped when unable to connect to a remote computer, but it did not sit and wait for a timeout.
One question more: I noticed an option under Import Group Members to "ignore members already being in a group..." This works well, but unfortunately the output shows nothing about particular operation so I have to take it on faith that imports that do NOT appear in the output window must indicate the member already existed, rather than some other error. I did some spot checks and found that to be the case, which is a good thing, but I am wondering what happens if that box is unchecked. Will it throw an error if it trys to import a user into a group where the user already exists? Or will it just log that as a "failure", which would be OK since at least I can keep track of all attempts regardless of reason. Thanks!
