Can I run Hyena in a strictly "read only" mode of AD?

No. Hyena is designed to be an admin utility, and as such does not have any functionality for read-only. Keep in mind that it is controlled by Windows security, so if a user running Hyena does not have sufficient permissions in Windows to modify data, they won't be able to through Hyena either.

Depending on what you are wanting, you might also look at the Exporter Pro utility that comes with Hyena. It can only be used for reporting/viewing data.
