  • CHANGE GROUP SCOPE

    Hello everyone,

I would like to know how can I change a local group on a server to a global group on the domain. Our is thier a way to do this with out doing all by hand.

    Thank you.

I don't know of any way to do this easily. There might be a utility out there to do this, but don't know off hand (search Google).

I did search Google! That's why I poste-it here. I'm using the Hyena V.6.6 and seem not to work.

        Re: CHANGE GROUP SCOPE

There isn't any such thing as changing the scope of a group. What has to happen is to create a new group and copy any members from the local group to the new group. Windows is always going to create a new SID based on the new group, so any security settings will have to be re-established.

Hyena does have a copy group function, but the problem is that it will only create a local group from a local group, or a global group from a global group.

I saw a utility once to do this on Microsoft's Resource Kit. It allowed a group to be copied and to change it from a local to a global group. It would still create a new group and SID. Search Microsoft's site for a list of the old Resource Kit utilities and look for any that do group-related tasks.
