  • RPC Server is unavailable

I've seen in the fourm where this was suppose to be a DNS issue. What could I do for a work around......
The issue when I connect to a server via the internet.. when I connect on dailup I can get to the server and Hyena functions correctly.. just very slowly.. when I connect from a network(behind a firewall or router) I get Unable to retrieve user list from <IP_ADDRESS>. The RPC server is unavailable?

This error can also be caused by the firewall blocking RPC. You may need to experiment with opening the appropriate ports on the firewall to see if you can get through.

        Re: RPC Server is unavailable

This is a list I've been passing out for a few years:

        Description: NetBT Datagram
        Protocol: UDP
        Direction: Both (Incoming and Outgoing)
        Ports: 137,138,139
        Remote Endpoint: Any,Any

I don't know if you for sure need all of those or not.

          Re: RPC Server is unavailable

I am evaluating Hyena 7.0 and suddenly this afternoon started getting the RPC error message when trying to bring up users, local groups or global groups. Nothing changed on the network, including the NetBios ports you mentioned above. I have rebooted my workstation, relogged in, and restarted the RPC services on the server, same message. Other features seem to still work fine, like computers, user rights, sheres, etc. I'd like to get back to checking out the app, any idea why those features suddenly failed?

See what happens is you use the Computer Management snapin on this same server. I suspect that the service service is stopped or some firewall is blocking the RPC traffic.
