    Re: Access denied?

As I suspected, this error is being returned by the task scheduler. Since you appear to have a workgroup environment, it can be caused by a lot of things, but the 'access denied' error is fairly self-explanatory. The things to check would be:

    - see what account the task scheduler service is running under on this computer.
    - After doing a logon As to this computer, verify using the local "Net Use" command that you have an IPC$ connection to this computer.

The task scheduler uses DCOM, so checking DCOM security (dcomcnfg) might also be a good idea.

There is a Microsoft KB article here that show how to set the scheduler account:

    Re: Access denied?

What exact Tasks menu option did you select when you got this error ? Hyena uses the Windows task scheduling API, and this error is returned by that sub-system. If you tell us what you selected, I can narrow it down further.

1.enabled the security changes in tools > folder options > view > then uncheck “use simple file sharingâ€‌.
2.enabled file sharing on the test computer
    3.reset the firewall
4.located the client machine on hyena, and right clicked on the machine and selected logon as’ and gained access to the remote computer.
    5. we were able to see the client's properties on hyena and we can remote into the machines, however, we got the following error when we use the schedule tasks feature:

    general page initialization failed.
    The specific error is:
    0x80070005: access is denied
An error has occurred attempting to receive task account information. You may continue editing the task object, but will be unable to change task account information.

what type of protocol does Hyena use for scheduling task?

    thanks.

We have similar issue using Hyena and machines not put on a domain. Hyena was installed on the same workgroup as the other PCS. Tried the logon feature and able to see the property of the client machines, however, we are having problems with schedule tasks and create software reports.

    Please advice.

    thx

    Re: Access denied?

Having a similar situation. I have introduce a laptop to manage workstations in a workgroup. It sees the workgroup and the PC's, but is not able to open them. I get access denied. Tried logging on as local administrator for the target machine--get and IPC$ error. Do I need to run net share on the computers in the workgroup? Also, joined the laptop to the workgroup and matched the local administrator account. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The computers are all in the same workgroup. Can't manage anything. Cant see disk space, registry, etc. As well as shutdown.

    Re: Access denied?

Can you manage anything else on these computers, or is it just the shutdown function?

Are these computers in a workgroup? If so, try right-clicking on one and choosing Logon As. Enter in the local administrator account and password information. After you do that see if you can do a shutdown on that computer.

    Access denied?

I have three pc's connected to my LAN via router. All pc's running XP pro with sp2.
I have each pc listed in MS Windows network, but if I want to view anything on the remote machines or try and shut them down, I get an access denied message.
I disabled windows firewall on the remote machines, and still get the same access denied.
Working...
