  • Query if File and Print Sharing is enabled?

    Hello all,
I've been searching, both here and MS knowledge base, for a way to poll all the workstations in my domain to determine if any do not have file and print sharing enabled. So far, I've found no way to check for this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
All the workstations are running win2k, & I've got Hyena v6.3
    Thanks,
    Billy

You could try to see if there is any WMI class that might give you this information, as Hyena can query multiple computers using WMI. However, I think (but am not 100% sure) that unless you have file/print sharing enabled, you can't remotely query a computer anyway. But I'm unsure at the moment...

Re: Query if File and Print Sharing is enabled?

The WMI queries seem to work on non-File/Print-shared workstations (at least on the one I'm using to test), but to be honest, I don't know what WMI property would reflect the file/print state.
No sweat, I'll find them all eventually as WSUS and other activities report failures. I was just hoping for the magic "just look at X value."

I did a bit of internet/Google search for "WMI file print sharing", and determined that you can't really use WMI for this, and the option that I saw were a bit complex. If you knew of a file that was installed when file and print sharing was enabled, you could use Exporter Pro to scan for the presense/absense of that file.
