  • Can I use Hyena to get Dell service tags?

We need to do an inventory and I'm wondering if this is possible.

Not sure...do you have any idea where this information is stored? If it's in the registry, or if you can find a WMI class containing the information you need, then you should be able to get to it using Exporter Pro.

I've done registry searches and I'm not sure where the data(service tag number) is located. I know that Dell has a tool on their website that collects it, but it would still have to be run on each machine in the building.

If their tool can be run remotely you can try creating a Custom Tool to run it against your computers. If it has to be run locally, see if you can get it to run remotely using something like psexec from SysInternals.com.

You can probably find the answer by searching google for dell service tag WMI.

One posting seems to indicate that the WMI Win32_SystemEnclosure class contains this information. You would have to create your own WMI query for this class in Hyena, but its not hard to do.

Let us know if you can't get it to work.

Works for me. Thanks for the info on the Class ID. I have been looking for this WMI inquiry for my Dell's for a long time now.
