  • Selective replacement of folder permissions

I need to change permissions on a large group of folders with inconsistant folder permissions. Essentially, I want to search the directory structure for a user named Tom, remove Tom's permissions, then add a new user, Jerry, in his place...but only where Tom had orginal permissions and nowhere else.

Since the directory structure is quite extensive and will probably need to do this in the future, I was looking for an automated approach via Hyena. I cringe at the thought of making changes, one subdirectory (or sub-sub directory) at a time. Any thoughts would be extremely helpful.

Unfortunately I don't know of any way that Hyena can help with this one.

You would need to either write a cacls/xcacls script to dump the permissions to a file and then extract and change the permissions for your one user, or use a tool like SecurityExplorer (www.smallwonders.com), now part of ScriptLogic to do this.
