  • Importing security on shares from an export

Hi all, I am new to this software and testing the waters. We had a server crash with a MILLION shares. I fortuanately had run a report with all the security on the shares. Ok, here is the question, is it possible to re-import the security information back into windows from the export? If anyone has the answer to this you would be saving me a tremendous amount of time and sweat.

There's no built-in way unfortunately. You might try seeing if the file could be doctored up and used with cacls or xcacls. If so, you could easily turn it into a batch file and run it that way.

To set the share security, use RMTSHARE.exe from the Resource Kit. If you have the export file, you can import the file into Excel or MSAccess and in a few minutes create a RMTSHARE batch file to recreate the shares and set security. The batch can even be run remotely.
