  • export userdata to access

    hi,
one of our customers reported the following problem:

after installation of hyena 6c it seems that something is going wrong with the export funktion. if he try to export userdata (tools -> generate report) to a access .mdb, hyena do not export anything. no entries in the table, no report. how ever, hyena is running on a w2k3 server & office 2000/2003. hyena v5.7 had no problems on this machine.

-original .mdb was converted to access2k/2k3
-no errors shown by hyena or access

do you have an idea what the problem could be?

    thanks for help
    best regards,
    jan

    Re: export userdata to access

Let me know the exact steps taken to run the report (I need to know exactly what is displayed in the right window).

Does Access run and if so what happens when Tools->Generate Report is selected ? Do you get any errors ?

      performed steps:
-double click users (domain) in the navigation window
      -right window display: username, despription...
-goto tools->generate report (german version of hyena is used so i hope that the translation is correct)

      -access is starting without errors

      thats it

        Re: export userdata to access

Just to make sure we don't have a patch for this, download and install rev 'D'.

        Also verify:

That you have a Windows domain (not a Windows 2000 domain). When you select Generate Report for a Windows domain with Users selected, the default report should say "users", so verify that this is what you are seeing.

I'm looking into this right now.

we have a win2k (ad) domain in this case.

          will check v6d

Assuming that its setup in Object Manager (the first toolbar button) as a Windows 2000/2003 domain, then the Generate Report dialog should display a blank report name, as AD reports are not pre-configured. Enter in a name like "Users" into the dialog and Access should just create a table with that name.

we tried to do so, but the result is still the same.
if there are no pre-configured reports for this, this feature is only for winnt - domains? do we have to create our own reports?

                Re: export userdata to access

The reporting system works for AD domains, but the reports are not pre-built as AD has unlimited numbers of attributes and combinations and the Access reporting system requires a predictable set of information. But you should get an Access table built, and from there you can run the Access report wizard on that if you want a report and then use it each time you run a particular AD query.

See if you can reinstall Access on this machine and make sure that all of the installation options (even optional ones) are selected.

If you still have problems, let me know the exact version of Access that you are using and also email me a zipped copy of your hyenarpt.mdb file if you can to [email protected]

                      Re: export userdata to access

So, when you enter the name of your table (ie 'users'), click OK, does Access then display your users in a datasheet (table) ?

If so, then everything is working. To make a report, the easist thing to do is to run the Report Wizard. Click on Reports, then select "Create report by using wizard". Follow the prompts and you will then have a report.

Then, each time you select Generate report in Hyena, use the same table name and then just run your report manually in Access. Its only an extra step. You can customize your report if you want to that way.
