  • Set Default Printer ??

I've added a local Generic Printer to several computers(2k/XP) using the add printer option in Hyena, I don't see an option or a way to "Set as Default Printer", is it possible or is there a way to set the local printer as default.

    Thanks

    Re: Set Default Printer ??

There isn't an easy way that I know of to set this remotely, as the default printer is maintained in the registry on a per-user basis. You would have to have this set either manually or in a logon script when the user logs on.

      Re: Set Default Printer ??

Based on Microsoft's KB article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=156212
(Please read the notes at the end before doing this in Hyena)
Find info for the printer to change to at:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cur rentVersion\Devices
Copy printername, winspool value, and NeValue.

      Add this information to:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Change the Value Data for Device to <printername>,winspool,<NeValue>

      NOTES:
There is a comma but no space between the values.
There is a colon after the NeValue.
Remote registry will not list HKEY_CURRENT_USER, so you will have to determine which SID to use in the HKEY_USERS entry. It is the first one with a long SID.
