  • Change "Run As" user in multiple machines Scheduled Tasks

I have an old NT4 domain I'm preparing to migrate to AD, I'll be collapsing the domain in question in which all the machines in the domain have a scheduled task that runs as a user of the domain I'll be collapsing. I need to change it to a new entitiy account for the domain we are migrating to.

Can I do it using Hyena?

Keep in mind, I'm 100% new at using Hyena. So, baby steps are necessary for my success.

    Thanks...

Re: Change "Run As" user in multiple machines Scheduled Tasks

I think you can do this. However, there isn't any way in Hyena to modify scheduled jobs or tasks for multiple computers (or even multiple jobs). Since NT usually used the old AT-style jobs, and Windows 2000 uses the new task scheduler, what you might want to consider doing is deleting all of the jobs and then just recreating them. Of course, do this for a few computers first.

To show all of the jobs for multiple computers, just display the computers in Hyena's right window, right click, and select Scheduled Jobs. Then, you can multi-select the jobs and delete them.

To create jobs on multiple computers, first create the task on one computer and verify that the task works, etc. Then, select the computers in Hyena that you want to copy the task to, right click, select More Functions, then Copy Remote Job. Review the help file to see how to copy the job, and try this on a test set of computers first.

If you just want to do this on one computer at a time, that is easy, just double-click the Scheduled Jobs object under any computer and modify the properties for the job.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Re: Change "Run As" user in multiple machines Scheduled Tasks

        Thanks...

I can do single machines all day w/o the use of Hyena by simply browsing to the machines in "My Network Places".

To the best of my knowledge, all the machines are at least W2K since the AT scheduler doesn't open the tasks under "Scheduled Tasks".

Next question, how do I navigate Hyena to see all the computers and be able to select them? I can see all the machines in the left pane, I can't select more then one there. I can't seem to figure out how to get them visible in the right pane?

Assuming that your domain is NT, double click on the Computers object to get the computers displayed in the right window. AD domains can go through either an OU/container or the All Computers object.

ONce you get the computers to multi-select you can perform some job management task across multiple computers at the same time.

Re: Change "Run As" user in multiple machines Scheduled Tasks

I have attempted to double click the computers, drag and drop them etc. When I double click on a computer it opens up a list of tasks I can manage on each machine. I can see the scheduled jobs as something I can manage per machine but want to do multiple machines at once.

Is my setup done wrong or something?

No, I meant the Computers object under the domain entry. Double-click that to display all of the computers in the right window.

Re: Change "Run As" user in multiple machines Scheduled Tasks

Found the answer from one of the locals here. For some reason, when I click on the DOMAIN\Computers, nothing happens, I have to right click and view all workstations for them to show in the right pane.

From there, I can select multiple machines at once and right click and view scheduled tasks. I select multiple tasks and I can't view the properties of each task. All I can do at this point is to delete all the tasks and then add new tasks to all the machines at once. Not quite as intuitive as a program should be but, I'll figure it out.

                Thanks...

Glad you figured it out. Like I said before, you can't modify the properties on multiple jobs as the Windows Task GUI does not provide for that, but you can delete them and re-add them using the right account. Remember that in Hyena you can 'copy' a task from one computer to any number of other computers.
