  • Scheduled Tasks Problem.

    Hi.

I am trying to view the scheduled tasks on several servers - it works fine on NT4 using the mstask version but when trying to connect to servers using the AT service, I get an error message - "unable to list scheduled tasks on <server>. The authentication service is unknown".

Does anyone have any idea what this is about?

    Cheers!

What OS are you running Hyena on?

It's running on Windows XP on my W\S - the domain is Win2K mixed mode...

      Cheers,
      Tony.

        Re: Scheduled Tasks Problem.

Apparently Microsoft has changed something in XP that affects viewing AT-style jobs. We've had another report of this, and found it still works fine running Hyena from either an NT or 2000 computer.

Unfortunately there is nothing Hyena can do differently in this case.

Something has happened in the past week though to affect this - I know quite a lot of critical updates have been put on last week around the time of the outbreak of sasser...it worked for me before that.

Though nothing was done to either my PC or the server I am trying to view...v. strange.

            Re: Scheduled Tasks Problem.

It could have been something in a recent update, because the first report of this was a few days ago.

This may explain why we can't find any useful information on it.

              This may help
              ----------------------------
              Nick Brown post on NTBUGTRAQ

Since installing the patch for MS04-012 (Q828741) on my Windows XP machine,
I get the following error when using the AT command to manage scheduled jobs
on a remote NT 4.0 server:

              C:\> AT \\nt4server
              The authentication service is unknown.

This problem is documented in Q834223; there is a hotfix (with the usual
jumping through hoops to obtain it). Uninstalled MS04-012 fixes the
              problem.

Another workaround is to execute the AT command from the remote server (or
any other NT 4.0 machine), eg:
              C:\> \\nt4server\admin$\system32\AT \\nt4server

However, just copying the AT.EXE from the NT machine to the XP machine and
running it from a local directory doesn't work, because the bug is in one of
three DLLs, which Windows apparently locates on the same machine as the
              executable.

I was interested to notice that the three DLLs in question, contained in the
MS04-012 fix, are dated 2003-11-17. The hotfix versions are dated
2003-12-30. One wonders why Microsoft didn't include those more recent
              versions in MS04-012.

Scheduled Jobs problem. All network computers configured the same with two responding as "Task Scheduler could not be found installed on this computer and/or on the selected remote computer"; yet by going to these comuters and opening Control Panel - Scheduled Jobs, these jobs are listed?

                  Re: Scheduled Tasks Problem.

You are probably getting this error due to the function 'SetTargetComputer' failing. We don't return the error code, but maybe this documentation might help identify what is going wrong in your case:
