Re: Use 'Logon As...' for entire domain

The alternate credentials feature in Hyena v6.7 only works for Active Directory access, and Active Directory depends heavily on DNS. Hyena looks at the DNS address of the AD object and uses the username/password set for the DNS address of the domain.

The Manage Passwords mechanism is entirely done by Windows, so I'm unclear what has to be provided and at what level it works.

I tried using this feature with a separate domain that has no DNS presence in my DNS servers.

I had to create entries in HOSTS pointing the domain (x.local) and the PDC to the IP address of the PDC, and use Manage Passwords in XP to add my logon credentials.

Setting Authentication Credentials didn't help at all.

The just-released Hyena v6.7 contains a domain-wide 'logon' capability, sort of. Windows does not have any such thing as a domain wide-logon, but you can provide alternate credentials for each AD object access, which is what we offer in v6.7. It might not work in some functions, and its too early to tell how well it works.

But if you can test the v6.7 upgrade, let us know your results.

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but is there any way to authenticate to another domain, using a two-factor logon (RSA token)?

Not exactly. The beta is now a release version of Hyena v6.0, which added an option to remember the last Logon As credentials used. There still isn't a domain-wide "Logon As" capability in Hyena, although we get closer with each release to being able to offer this.

OK, so there exists a beta that offers this functionality? Where can I find that beta...?

    Thanks!

    Martijn.

Hey, thanks for listening! The latest beta has some additional 'Logon As...' functionality that makes it a little bit easier to use.

    Once again, job well done!

At this point what we recommend is that you create a duplicate username/password in each domain you want to manage that matches the username/password that you are logged in with.

Windows will use pass-through authentication and authenticate you with those credentials.

This should keep you from having to use the Logon As function at all.

Use 'Logon As...' for entire domain

I manage multiple domains with no trusts between them. I was wondering if there was a way to use the 'Logon As...' menu option at the domain level rather than having to do it for each machine.

It is nice that once you 'Logon As' to a machine in the domain, the values are saved for the next machine. But it would be even nicer if you could do it once at the domain level and then not have to do it again for each machine unless you wanted to override it.

Also, is there anyway to default the values for Domain and Username to say the machine name or the domain name and 'Administrator' or something else?

And keep up the good work SystemTools. I use Hyena daily and think it is a great tool that makes my job easier. Thanks!
