  • Using The "Send Wakeup Request" Feature

    Hi everyone,
I have a question about the Send Wakeup Request feature in Hyena. I have my server WOL feature enabled on the NIC, but when I try and use this feature in Hyena, I get a message that it is looking for wol.dat and it can't find it. How do I use this great feature?

    Thanks in advance.

You'll need to configure this file first, and you can do so by going to Tools->Settings->WOL. The format is:

    hostname MAC_address

That is a tab separating those.

You can find more information on this in Hyena's help file by searching for WOL.

Just remember that the WOL is a broadcast and will not go through your routers. Unless you are allowing that through your routers (which I doubt).

So is there any way around that short of Installing Hyena on EVERY local subnet and running the WOL from there or enabling broadcasts through the routers?

        Thanks,
        Dave

The only other option would be to have a "WOL Server" computer running on each subnet, and then use a WOL command line utility (there are a few out there) that can send it on your behalf. You could even use Hyena's WMI Create Remote Process command to launch the WOL command, although I have not tested that.
