  • Unable to access a workstation

I have a workstation that I can not loger access it's Open Files, Services, Devices, Registry, and the rest of the services on the workstation.

I am suspecting that the user of that machine might have turned a service off or added a key in the Registry to turn it off.

    Can you please asssit?

What errors do you get when you try to access these?

Re: Unable to access a workstation

When I click on Services, I get Unable to access service information. Access is denied.

When I try to connect to the Registry, I get Unable to connect to registry of"\\workstaiton". Access is denied.

      I hope this helps

Re: Unable to access a workstation

Access denied would indicate that they probably removed either your account, or whatever account you would normally access this through (such as domain admins) from their local (probably administrators) group.

They can also set security in the registry itself that can lockout some of these requests.

I would start with the local administrators group and see if anything has changed there.

Re: Unable to access a workstation

I made sure the Domain Admins are in the local Admins group and also I made sure that Domain admin have FULL control on the C:\

How can I find out which registry keys he has turned off or a utility that he might have installed to block the Domain Admins from accessing the resources through Hyena?

          Thanks in advance,
          sK

Re: Unable to access a workstation

Check of other programs, as well, like TweakXP or other "lock down" programs installed.

TweakXP is notorious for denying remote access by disabling the Remote Registry service, and keeping it from being started, even by a Domain or Local Admin. And removing TweakXP doesn't fix the issue. Reinstalling the OS does...

Check your services, especially the Remote Registry service.
Check the Local Security Policy/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment/Access this computer from the network

One other thing..if you know the local Admin account's username/password, attempt to "Logon As" using those credentials (be sure to change the domain name to the workstation's name).

                Hope this helps!
