  • Looking for local machine admin accounts

Is there any way to look for the local machine admin account, then check to see if it is locked out, then unlock it?

I am wanting to do about 100 machines from some kind of a batch then report everything to a text file. In 100% of the cases I know the admin account but do not want to visit these machine one at a time.

Can anything like that be done?? So it would be look for the admin account and see who is locked out. Then unlock those who are locked out and write to a text file.

    Thanks

Our next beta release will allow for exporting local accounts. If you'd like to try this you can send a blank email to [email protected].

OK I got the beta but am unsure how to export a report listing of the local machines to check the admin account and see if it is locked out. Can you give me some help?

1st display the local admin accounts.
2nd display who is locked out.
3rd is there a way to mass unlock them?

      Thanks

The current revision doesn't allow for this. The next one should have that in there. (Coming soon)

OK so what does "Our next beta release will allow for exporting local accounts. If you'd like to try this you can send a blank email to [email protected]." mean?

Does that mean the next rev.?

Yes. I guess I should have said:

"Our next beta release will allow for exporting local accounts. If you'd like to be notified of it's release, you can send a blank email to [email protected] and join our beta program."

So is there a Resource Kit tool or something that will do this now?

Re: Looking for local machine admin accounts

So I have the newest beta but am still unable to list local machine accounts and display which ones are locked out. I just way off is the problem and don't understand how to setup the view.

If I understand the below from the newest beta I should be able to do this.

                - Added exporting of Local/NT user accounts and user group members.

                Thanks

Re: Looking for local machine admin accounts

In Cobblestone go to Help->About Cobblestone and verify that you are running Rev 'F'. If you are, then go to the Configuration menu and choose Properties. Choose the Local/NT Users tab and configure it to export.

Run the export, and open the output file in Excel. The column that has Lockout is the Account Flags column.

It is rev -F, but properties is grayed out.

Re: Looking for local machine admin accounts

There are plenty of scripts out there that will do what you want with a list of local admin accounts. Even here within this BB.

Do a search for "local admin" on this BB and maybe Google it.

You'll find what you probably need in WSH, ADSI and VBScript.
