Windows 2000 machines in a Workgroup

Can I access Windows 2000 machines that are on a workgroup and not a domian?

I can get to some things, but I need to change the administrator password on the machine. I can not login to Windows on this system.

As long as you can see the computer in Hyena, you should be able to right-click and choose Logon As and supply a local admin account and password.

You'll have to be able to authenticate on that box with an admin account before you can reset the Administrator password, though.

That's the problem, the Admin password does not work, so I assume it was changed. As a matter of fact, nobody can login to that machine.

It sounds like your only option at that point would be to look into some sort of password cracking utility to help you get to the Administrator account.

It was also suggested that if you think the Administrator account may have been renamed, or to see what accounts are on the computer, that you might be able to create a null session (just reboot your computer to kill all current connections), then try to view the users on that computer.

That will at least allow you to verify what the name of the admin account is.

If you can physically get to the machine, create a boot disk with these instructions to change the Admin password (or better yet, just make it blank until you get into the system, then add a new password).
