  • Detection of servers and workstations with IIS installed

    All,

I am trying to use hyena across my network assets to see if IIS is installed on servers / workstations. Has anyone done this or know of a way to do this.

The only way that I can think of to do this would be to see what services would be installed that indicate IIS. You could then run the export facility to scan looking for that service. ISS does not report itself like SQL or other "services" so it won't show up on the computer properties display.

So the best way would be to export all of the machines and their services and then cut them back from there??

The Export Services option allows you to specify a service that you want to report on. For example, if you identify that IIS installs a service called IIS, then you would put in [IIS] for the Specific Service.

When you run this you will get a delimited text file containing ONLY the computers that have the IIS service installed, and the information on that service on each computer.

Open that file with Excel for sorting and such and you'll be able to quickly see which computers have it installed, etc.

The main service for IIS is "iisadmin".
