Expiring passwords for multiple users

Is it possible within Hyena to expire multiple user passwords in one go. I have a number of users within a domain and I have found that they are all using the same password. I would like to expire them all in go and allow, say, 5 days to change there password. I can do this individually obviously but it is rather time consuming.

I have seen multiple postings about resetting multiple users passwords but that's not the same thing.

I think I found the answer already. If anyone else ever needs to know, here is how you do it:

Select users so the list appears on the the right-hand side. Ctrl click on your selected users, right-click any of the selected users, select 'User Properties' from the list. Select 'Account' from the tabs at the top. In that screen you will see the expiration date. Enter your chosen date and press OK, you will be promppted with a confirmation message relating to the number of users you selected. Click OK.......

If anyone knows an even better way, let me know.

The best solution for this would be to set these accounts to User Must Change Password At Next Logon.

Display your users in the right window by double-clicking on the Users object. In the right window select the accounts you want to change by Ctrl-clicking on them, then right-click and choose User Properties.

Check the box for User Must Change Password At Next Logon and click OK. This will apply this change to the selected users.

It doesn't give them 5 days, but I believe it is the only solution.

The problem with doing that is you actually expire the account, not the password.

Indeed. I realised last night what I had done and luckily, before I had tried in on our live user accounts!!

Do you think in the next Version of Hyena it may have the functionality to expire passwords as opposed to your suggestion of selecting users must change password at next logon? I agree it gives us almost the same result, but not quite.

Unfortunately that is not a supported operation, so the only way to really do this would be the method mentioned above.

FYI.

I found a big problem with using the method you suggested and you may already be aware.

If you make the setting change 'users must change password at next logon' whilst users are logged into the network, it will cause your users (and consequently the admins) problems with saving files, opening files, printing, adding printers, and so on. I even came across and issue whereby the user did not even have permission to change their own password!!

If anyone knows of any other ways to expire passwords please let me know because I'm back to the drawing board now!

This is a very common practice, and in fact whenever you change a user's password, that option will be enabled by default.

If this were a problem, it would be known by now.

I would imagine that this could happen if you expired any of these accounts the way you mentioned above.

That can definitely cause problems.
