  • How do I obtain a list of software installed on network computer using Hyena

    Hello All,

Does anyone know if its possible to obtain
a list installed software applications from
remote computers on a network using Hyena or
    any other product.

Need this for license auditing...& policy compliant by users.

    cheers,

We have this feature planned for a future release of Hyena, probably towards the end of the year.

      Hi

I'm using for quickly viewing the following freeware "Installed" from http://wettberg.home.texas.net

but, for all servers on our domains, we are using Configuration Assessor from NetIQ (http://www.netiq.com)

        Hello,

Did you ever get an answer to this query. I'm trying to use different software to audit our network. As yet there seems to nothing reliable on the market to do this. Hyena posted on your message that this would be available possibly later in the year (2002), does anyone know if this is possible now? I currently use Version 4.3.

I've also tried Dameware but that is no good either and they are also trying to devlop the same software.

Current versions of Hyena now have the ability to show installed software in the Properties of a computer. This is one computer at a time, though.

We are working on enhanced reporting/exporting to allow for reporting this information on multiple computers and will have this ready for a near-future release.

            Hi,

I use a "FREE" Tool called OCS Inventory.
You can it get from http://ocsinventory.sourceforge.net

Has this been done? Can you report on more than one server at time?

PsInfo.exe (of Sysinternals) does a great job of Software invetory and is fully scriptable and free.
I am a big fan of Mark Russinovich, and I think that every Windows System Admin should have all of the free tools he wrote.
It is no wonder that SysInternals are now a Microsoft company, but all of the utilities are completely free.

pankajwc, sorry you didn't get a reply to your previous inquiry.

Hyena has two primary methods for getting installed software applications for multiple computers.

The first way is to use the "Installed Software" registry template as part of Exporter Pro, which is included with Hyena. This process simply reads the Uninstall registry key, and get the applications listed there. Its the same list you would get from Add/Remove Software in Control Panel.

The other method is to use WMI, which provides for a WMI class named Win32_Product. Unfortunately, this class may not be found on all computers. You can execute a WMI query on one or more computers either with Exporter Pro or Hyena (Enterprise Edition).

If you need more information on either method, let us know.

can we get more details on how this works please?

Is there a custom WMI I can run against the servers I need to audit for apps?

Which part do you need more information for, the registry scan or the WMI query. The WMI class is named Win32_Product, and you can add this class by right clicking on the WMI object under any computer (provided you have the Enterprise Edition) and creating a new query with this class. Try it on your computer first, then a remote computer.

                              Hello All,

I am looking for capturing the installed softwares on the domain. As suggested in the earlier post, I want to go ahead with the registry scan type.

Please provide information on how to perform it on the domain and whether I can filter the results for a specific software/tool.

                              Thanks,
                              enrique
