  • Duplicate name exists on the network?

I am logging on to a remote server using Logon As... from my W2K workstation. I receive the following error message. What is wrong?
Unable to establish IPC$ connection to \\servername. A duplicate name exists on the network.

As a test, go to the Command Prompt on your computer and type in:

    net use \\server\ipc$ /user:administrator

You can change administrator to whatever account you are using in the Logon As in Hyena.

Do you get any errors this way?

I can connect using machine name but I cannot connect using the DNS alias name. Can you shed some light on this? TIA.

We're not sure on this one. The fact that you get this when using the net use command indicates a problem outside of Hyena.

You might want to verify that you don't have a DNS issue or something along those lines.
