Changing mulitple local accounts

We try to secure our local NT workstations to protect the local "administrator" account.
We rename this as something else and change the password.

I can perform the change of password using the "Set Account Password" feature within "More Functions".

Can I bulk rename accounts from "Administrator" to "NewName" ?

Unfortunately, no you can't rename accounts in bulk like that in Hyena. We found a free command line user rename tool called NetUser that we put on our Free Tools page at www.systemtools.com. It can do this with a simple command line. You can use Hyena's Tools->Generate Macro option to quickly build a command file to use NetUser on a bunch of selected computers to rename their accounts.

Thanks, that does seem to work. However, I can only seem to change local accounts. Do you know the syntax that I might need to use to perform on a number of machines ???

I'm sorry, I thought that the utility had a command line option for specifying a machine name in addition to the account name. Let me know if you don't find anything on the NT Resource Kit or anywhere (I searched around on the net and came up blank), and if you don't find anything, I'll write something. Its simple to do. You would think that someone has a freebie for this. Sorry for the false lead.

I have had a quick look round a few sites and cant find anything (except as part of a larger, chargeable!, collection. If you are able to do this that would be fantastic and very much appreciated.

This small program can be run with a commandline of:

renameuser server olduser newuser
