  • Working with Distribution lists

This is what I am trying to do. I have my OU's in the left pane, the users in the right pane. I select multiple accounts and right click>account functions>Add to Group. Once the box pops up, I type the begining of our group "PHX". Then click OK and another box comes up with a list of groups that start with PHX. I can select the "PHX 1300 N Central". When I click ok I get an Error.

If I turely do not have rights, where do I go to get this particular one set. I am able to open up the exchange administrator and make accounts and add or remove users from a distribution lists. I am a field admin, the next step up would be a Domain Admin.
Unable to change group membership for "LDAP://CN=PHX Tempe Site,OU=Phoenix,OU=VO Distribution Groups,DC=FHC1,DC=NET".Access is denied.
    --Extended Error--LDAP Provider : 00002098: SecErr: DSID-03150620, problem 4003
    (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0

I am on a 2000 WKST, using Hyena 5.0, Ex 5.5 in a mixed mode enviroment.

Do you have rights to perform this function ? I assume so, but wanted to make sure...

This function actually works the opposite of the way you think. When the users are selected to be added to a group, Hyena has to access the group, and add the user to the group as a member.

I went in through Exchange Administration and was able to add my self to this distribution list, then I removed my self. So I think I have the rights. What would be giving this error? any ideas?

Try seeing if you can modify the group directly. Access the properties for the group, go to the members tab, and try adding the same user.

I'll have to have someone call you from support next week. I don't really understand.

              Re: Working with Distribution lists

Ok, I did a find in Hyena for the Distribution list and pulled up the properties. I only had read rights. We are going through each one and giving our field admin full rights to the distribution list. This should fix it. Thanks a million

                Re: Working with Distribution lists

Well, I definatly have rights now to those distribution groups now.
Same senario, OU's on the left and users on the right. I can try a single user or multiple users highlighted. I right click the selection>Account Functions>Add to Group. Then I type the begining of the Distribution name PHX and click ok. It gives a new box and I selected the Cave Creek Distributuin group.

But here is the new error. See if this one
                makes sense.

Unable to change group membership for LDAP://CN=PHX Cave Creek Site,OU=Phoenix,OU=VO Distribution Groups,DC=FHC1,DC=NET".The server is unwilling to process the request.

Are you using Windows XP for your client computer ? If so, what is the service pack level ?

                    Re: Working with Distribution lists

I am using Windows 2000 Pro with Service pack 3. I heard that Microsoft recomends you manage a 2000 enviroment with XP. But I thought that was for GPO stuff.

Something did weird happen though. I was able to select three users I knew were not in a distribution list. I did the same thing and got no error. Later, they were in the DL. It seems as though you get an error if they already exist in that DL?

I signed up for the Beta users and wonder if I should go fir it since it is more AD friendly. What is your opinion?
